Senior Oracle APEX developer
Authority Partners is seeking a Senior Oracle APEX Developer who can own applications end-to-end, from gathering requirements and shaping the product to building, testing, and delivering it. In this role, you will work directly with clients and stakeholders to turn business needs into well-designed, high-quality APEX solutions, acting as both the product owner and the lead developer for your applications.
What you will do:
- Own Oracle APEX applications across the full lifecycle, from discovery and requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Work directly with clients and business stakeholders to understand their processes, identify pain points, and translate needs into clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Act as the product owner for your applications: define scope, prioritize the backlog, manage trade-offs, and keep stakeholders aligned on roadmap and delivery.
- Design data models and build robust, secure, and performant applications using Oracle APEX, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Write efficient, well-structured SQL and PL/SQL code, including stored procedures, functions, packages, and triggers, to implement business logic at the database level.
- Design and maintain database objects such as tables, views, sequences, indexes, and constraints that support application requirements.
- Develop data migration, transformation, and validation scripts, and support data loads between systems.
- Analyze and tune SQL queries and PL/SQL code using execution plans, indexing strategies, and bulk processing techniques.
- Implement robust error handling, logging, and transaction management in database code.
- Develop intuitive, responsive user interfaces using APEX components, Universal Theme, JavaScript, and CSS where needed.
- Build and consume RESTful services using ORDS and integrate APEX applications with external systems and APIs.
- Plan and execute testing, including unit, integration, and user acceptance testing, and support stakeholders through UAT and go-live.
- Manage application security, including authentication schemes, authorization, and session state protection.
- Maintain clear documentation of requirements, design decisions, and application functionality.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to estimation, planning, and continuous improvement.
What you have:
- 6+ years of professional experience in Oracle development, with at least 4 years building production applications in Oracle APEX (recent versions, ideally 23.x to 26.x).
- Strong hands-on proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, subqueries, analytic functions, and aggregations.
- Solid PL/SQL programming experience: packages, procedures, functions, triggers, cursors, collections, exception handling, and bulk operations.
- Good understanding of database fundamentals: relational design, normalization, constraints, indexing, and transaction control.
- Experience with query performance tuning using execution plans, statistics, and indexing strategies.
- Experience with Oracle Database (19c or later) and tools such as SQL Developer, SQLcl, or TOAD.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery within the APEX framework.
- Proven experience gathering and documenting requirements directly with business users.
- Experience acting in a product owner or business analyst capacity: defining scope, prioritizing features, and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Experience planning and executing testing activities and supporting UAT.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and deployment practices for APEX applications.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead conversations with clients independently.
- A track record of owning applications end-to-end and delivering business outcomes, not just code.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments, managing multiple stakeholders and shifting priorities.
- Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development is a plus.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field would be of great value, but if you're passionate and your experience backs up your abilities, talent outweighs degree every time.
